Oslo, Norway 30/12/23 - 01/01/24

There are numerous descriptions, articles, blogs and vlogs of Oslo that do a better job than me of telling you why you should visit, so I’ll just give a brief description of my experience.

Oslo is a great city. The majority of the major landmarks and things to see are all within walking distance, giving you a more immersive experience than getting a taxi or tube like most other cities. It’s clean, friendly and surprisingly relaxed for the time of year, as it seems that most Norwegians spend their time at home with family.

Over the course of the trip I visited a lot of the landmarks and took a boat ride to see the fjords, but explored the city by foot.

It is an interesting city to photograph as it seamlessly blends modern, traditional, industrial architecture and culture together. There are nice contrasts throughout the city, whether it’s modern apartment complexes surrounded by industrial cranes and dockyards, highlighted by traditional Christmas decorations and lights, or the neutral tonal pallet of grey concrete illuminated by warm street lights. It was an enjoyable and relaxed place to visit and photograph.
